L-BLOCK OPEN HOUSE
We’ve heard you: Calgary needs more affordable, accessible spaces for artists to rehearse, create and perform.
In partnership with ALLIED, the owner of the Lougheed Building, The GRAND is exploring how L-Block could help respond to that need, expanding access to space for Calgary’s creative community and creating new opportunities for artists and arts organizations.
On September 10, we’re opening the doors and inviting artists, makers, cultural organizations and the wider public to come inside, explore the building and picture what could happen here.
Throughout the evening, artists and makers will share work alongside food, music and opportunities to meet some of the people making and presenting work across Calgary.
An invitation to imagine what could happen here…
L-Block has rooms to fill, walls to work with and spaces that could accommodate all kinds of creative activity — from rehearsals and performances to exhibitions, classes, workshops, installations and gatherings.
We’re inviting artists, dancers, theatre-makers, musicians, comedians, creative companies, dance and theatre schools, makers, collectives and other cultural organizations to come and see the space, meet one another and consider whether L-Block could become part of what they’re creating next.
You might come to see an exhibition, stay for something to eat or drink, discover a new artist, meet someone new in the creative community, or simply satisfy your curiosity about what’s inside the building.
You may also leave with an idea for something you’d like to make here.
L-Block Open House is a first step in exploring what becomes possible when an underused space, a building owner and a community of artists come together.
We’d love you to come and see what might be possible.
