A Night to Remember
On February 3, 1914, Charles Daniels, a Black CPR porter, stood against racial segregation at the very theatre now known as The GRAND. Denied the orchestra-level seat he purchased and offered a spot in the "coloured" balcony instead, Daniels refused. He took legal action, launching one of the first civil rights cases in Alberta.
Though the outcome was never recorded, his courage echoes a century later.
On February 3, 2025, we honour his legacy at the very stage where it began.
