High School Mentorship Program
Theatre Junction is committed to developing a cultural context for contemporary performance in the city of Calgary. Our outreach programs reflect our belief that the education of youth is looking towards the future, and will foster a vibrant community.
Every year, Theatre Junction’s award-winning High School Mentorship Program offers high school students the unique opportunity to learn experientially about contemporary performance practices, while developing mentoring relationships with theatre professionals.
Theatre Junction presents Master Classes for emerging and senior artists in Calgary to encounter the national and international artists presented in Theatre Junction’s season. The 2016/17 SEASON, Master Classes were given by Hiroaki Umeda (JAPAN), tgSTAN (BELGIUM), and Virginie Brunelle (MONTREAL).
Theatre Junction invites all of the artists presented in our season to participate in post-performance discussions with the audience, mediated by members of our team at Theatre Junction. Artist Talks give the public the opportunity to have conversations with artists about their work.
TJ Lab Sessions
Each year, six promising emerging creators, who are exploring different aspects of theatrical form and performance in new and interesting ways, will be selected to be artists in residence with the company. The program consists of three one year phases of discovery, incubation and creation. Mentorship, guidance and resources will be given towards the realization of a new piece of work that will be presented publicly at key stages.
The program addresses the chronic need to mentor a new generation of artists that will, hopefully, elect to stay in Calgary rather than move elsewhere and will have a significant impact on the culture and future of our city.
Please refer to our calendar for free showings throughout the year.
